Benefits of Choosing Chemical Peels for Skin Rejuvenation

Chemical peels are an amazingly effective skin rejuvenation treatment that has become extremely popular in recent years. One key reason for its rising popularity is its versatility. There are not too many skin conditions that it cannot treat. Whether you are dealing with wrinkles, enlarged pores, a dull complexion, hyperpigmentation, or more, a chemical peel can most likely help.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment that we can use to reduce common skin imperfections like signs of aging and sun damage. It involves the removal of some portion of the outer layer of your skin to promote new skin tissue that rises from beneath and replaces old, damaged skin.

What Types of Peels are There?

There are three basic types of chemical peels: light, medium, and deep. The names refer to their depth of penetration, but peels are also categorized by their set of ingredients, concentration strengths, and areas of treatment. The right peel for you can ultimately be determined during an initial consultation at our office.

When you are dealing with skin problems on the surface of your skin like a dull complexion, enlarged pores, or superficial scars, a lighter type of chemical peel is probably the treatment you are looking for. It involves the application of a chemical solution containing fairly weak acids to remove only the outermost layer of your skin composed of dead skin cells.

As the name suggests, the more deeper types of peels are used for more serious skin problems that require greater skin penetration. They are typically used to treat problems like scars, hyperpigmentation, and deeper wrinkles.

How Should I Care for My Skin Following the Procedure?

Your skin may be a bit vulnerable and sensitive after your procedure, particularly if you had a medium or deep peel performed. It’s important to treat it very gently and use a good moisturizer to lock in hydration. You should also wear a good sunscreen if you are going outdoors. You can most likely stick to your normal skin care routine. Now is not the time to start experimenting on your own with new, fancy skin care products.
