Winter Skin Care Tips
Winter months can wreak havoc on the integrity of our skin. The air is much drier, which contributes to dehydrated, irritated skin. There are several things we can do to maximize the moisture in our skin during this time of year and keep our skin looking and feeling its best.
Invest in a humidifier at home, as this will help combat dryness in the air.
Keep the hot showers to a minimum. We've all been guilty of enjoying hot showers, but it is very drying to the skin. Adjust the temperature to lukewarm instead.
Choosing the right cleanser is important. Foaming cleansers, especially during the winter months, can be very drying to the skin. Try switching to a cream-based cleanser if you are experiencing tightness or dryness after cleansing.
Regular exfoliation is crucial to remove dead, flaky skin buildup and helps products work optimally in the skin. Exfoliation should be done a few nights a week.
Look for hydrating and nourishing ingredients in your products. Moisturizers containing ingredients such as Sodium Hyaluronate, Squalane, Glycerin, Shea Butter and Ceramides keep hydration locked in the skin and protect the skin barrier. Apply your moisturizer when your skin is still slightly damp from cleansing; this will help the moisturizer absorb better.
Using SPF protection in the winter is just as important as any other time of the year. SPF should be applied every day to protect the skin against sun damage, accelerated aging, and of course the possibility of skin cancer.
Outside of using effective skincare products at home daily, regular monthly facials boost the health of our skin and strengthen the skin barrier. Beyond the many anti-aging and acneic benefits of Hydrafacials in particular, Hydrafacials are incredible treatments to exfoliate and keep the skin hydrated, especially during the winter months. Your skin will be glowing the moment you leave the treatment room!
