Medical Weight Loss Q & A
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure that helps remove fat deposits on the body and define new contours on the body. Orange Blossom Aesthetics uses the innovative technology of Smartlipo, which employs laser lipolysis, a form of liposuction in which lasers liquefy the fat before it’s removed. The liquefied fat is far easier to extract from the body, so it’s a less invasive procedure that’s more comfortable for patients and enables your provider to remove even the most stubborn areas of fat.
Smartlipo is designed to reduce areas of fat that have proven resistant to diet and exercise, so it’s not a solution for obesity.
How does liposuction with SmartLipo work?
The Smartlipo device uses a laser to target fat cells in the treatment area, delivering thermal energy that melts the fat and turns it into a liquid. Using a gentle form of suction, your provider at Orange Blossom Aesthetics removes the liquid fat, reducing the bulges, rolls, and pockets of fatty tissue that can be so hard to shift with diet and exercise.
As well as liquefying fat, exposure to laser heat tightens the tissues in the target area, causing coagulation and having a remodeling effect on the skin. As a consequence, the overall area becomes smoother, with natural-looking results.*
What happens during a liposuction procedure?
During your first visit, your provider at Orange Blossom Aesthetics needs to make sure you’re a good candidate for Smartlipo and whether it is the right form of treatment in your case.
On the day of the procedure, you receive a local anesthetic so you’ll be awake throughout the process but unable to feel any pain. You may wish to listen to some music, sleep, or simply relax, whichever makes you most comfortable. Avoiding general anesthesia reduces possible risk factors and lowers the cost of the procedure considerably. And recovery should be faster than if you were to receive traditional liposuction.
When the treatment area is fully numbed, your provider makes a small incision in your skin and passes the Smartlipo laser along a thin tube into the fatty tissue. The fat melts under the laser’s heat and is gently suctioned away.
How long does it take to heal after liposuction with SmartLipo?
Following the procedure, you need to wear a compression garment for between two and four weeks to support the tissues while they’re healing. You’re likely to experience mild bruising and swelling in the treatment area during the initial healing period, but nothing serious, and you should be able to resume your normal schedule within two to three days of treatment.
You can see the difference in your figure straight away, but as the tissues heal, you’ll see even greater improvement over the next three to six months.
